World-renowned bassist Charles Berthoud is redefining what’s possible on the bass guitar. Fusing virtuosic techniques with melodic sensitivity and compositional flair, his playing blurs the line between rhythm and lead instrument. This distinctive, genre-spanning approach, drawing from rock, jazz and classical influences, has captivated a global audience of over 3 million followers on social media. That reach has translated into international tours and performances across Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Australia, as well as a range of signature basses with Schecter.
Charles’s musical foundations include graduating from Berklee College of Music with highest honours, where he also co-authored the book Two-Handed Tapping with renowned professor Jim Stinnett. His innovative technique and online presence have earned him recognition as one of the leading modern voices of the instrument.
Inspired by his time at Berklee, he built a highly successful online teaching platform, helping over 20,000 students achieve their bass goals through his Patreon community and his Basscamp courses. He has also delivered masterclasses at prestigious events and institutions including Victor Wooten’s Music & Nature Camp, Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, Guitar Summit, and Stu Hamm’s Estonian Bass Oasis, further cementing his reputation as both a performer and educator.
